The SAE Kansas Gamma Fundraising Initiative

Fellow Kansas Gamma SAE Alumni Brothers,

As presented at our 55th reunion dinner on October 7th, 2022, the Kansas Gamma Building and Education Foundation is pleased to announce our “Maintaining & Winning” fundraising effort. Specifically, our goal is to raise $75,000 to replace the quickly deteriorating 25-year-old roof and transform the back parking lot into a multi-purpose sports court complete with a sand volleyball pit, basketball goals and a barbeque/entertaining area.

Both projects in the Foundation’s opinion are necessities versus niceties. And since COVID, much has changed at our beloved chapter:

• Recruitment competition for new members is remarkably higher than when we were in school. Other fraternities have developed marketing initiatives that have resulted in pledge classes larger than our current efforts. Greek rush parties today are often informal, social outside gatherings at Houses. SAE’s backlot currently is a distinct competitive disadvantage for the Actives.
• In normal times, a healthy and robust chapter may have been able to contribute financially to these efforts. However, COVID had (and continues to have) a huge membership and thus budgetary impact on the Active chapter. As a result, all current funds available are reserved for building insurance, taxes, and annual operating and maintenance costs. Even assuming the chapter’s recruitment efforts would suddenly undergo a dramatic improvement, (key alumni members are currently in the process of instituting Active training to enhance their recruiting efforts) it would require 75 months of rent income for the House to accumulate the funds necessary for these two projects.

This unique situation, which candidly threatens the House’s ability to not only survive short term but also thrive long term, is why we are asking for your involvement. Please know that all donations will be used for capital improvements only, and not for normal House expenses or social events. Our goal is to collect all funds by the end of 2022 so the work can be completed before the start of the summer 2023 rush.

Before you make your decision, I would like to ask you to reflect upon the impact being a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has had in your life. Not just the great times while you were an Active, but the life lessons learned, the conduct and respect that was ingrained into the core fabric of how you go about your day and the lifelong fellowships you are blessed to enjoy. SAE changed who you are, forever. 

Simply put, we would not be the men we are today without the House. Giving back now is a small way to show your appreciation, and “pay it forward” so the House – your House - can mold more great men. Investing in the House ensures our strong tradition will continue and grow.
